Description
Have you ever wondered about an area cemetery? On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. join us for a FREE presentation on the Colonial Cemeteries of Stonington. Town historian, Fred Burdick will share the history and lore of area cemeteries. He is the Preservationist for both the Wequetequock Burial Ground in Stonington and the Avery-Morgan Burial Ground in Groton. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. He received an award from the National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars for his contributions in preserving colonial history. He is a recipient of “The Oakley Certificate of Merit” from the Association of Gravestone Studies. Fred’s ancestry goes back to all of the founding families of the Stonington area. For years he has published Burdick Newsletters with information, photos, and help regarding all things genealogy. He has spent years restoring, photographing, and preserving cemeteries throughout the area. He recently donated a collection of photos and records to the Denison Homestead, which are invaluable as stones have been destroyed or deteriorated over the years, and at times, can no longer be read. https://www.denisonhomestead.org/ Cost: Free
