The History of the Railroad Sytem in Southeast Connecticut
Wednesday, February 26, 2025 (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM) (EST)
Description
With an extensive range of visuals, Keith Barker will share his broad observations of the railroad history journey from Westerly to New Haven. The presentation will include interesting historical, structural, and operational details of each of the area’s stations and their environs, present and past. We will visit their roles in the community and the changes that have taken place as a result of their inclusion or exclusion in the CT southeast railroad transportation system. Keith Barker has been an Engineering and Education faculty member at the University of Sheffield, England and the University of Connecticut. He has developed a strong interest in the rail system of southeast Connecticut following the style of BBC’s Michael Portillo in which there is more to a railway system that just the trains, tracks and signals. His story about the railway system has been published in the Mystic River Press and the Norwich Bulletin.
