ABOUT GREG PICCOLO

Greg Piccolo is a renowned figure in the world of blues, and rhythm & blues, with an extraordinary career spanning over six decades. His skillful tenor saxophone playing, unique vocal style, and charismatic stage presence have earned him a respected place among the best in the industry.

Greg’s journey began in Westerly, Rhode Island, where, at just 13 years old, he formed his first band. His early musical talents were quickly recognized, and the band gained a strong New England following with Greg eventually catching the attention of Duke Robillard, the founder of the legendary blues band Roomful of Blues.  During his 25 year tenure Greg helped solidify the group’s signature sound and status as one of the premier blues bands in the world, touring extensively and recording numerous albums.

In 1994, Piccolo launched his own band, Heavy Juice, beginning a new chapter that has now spanned 32 years. The smaller ensemble allowed for greater flexibility and creative freedom, enabling Piccolo to fully realize his artistic vision. Heavy Juice has toured coast to coast and border to border.  Piccolo has recorded for San Francisco’s Fantasy Records (now Concord), releasing Red Lights and Acid Blue. Two instrumental albums followed, Homage (Emit Doog Music) and Who Did This? (Swanktone), both featuring Piccolo on tenor saxophone.

Greg recently completed a recording session for his upcoming album, “Who Knows What the Future Holds”,  produced by the legendary Terry Manning, known for his work with artists like Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top, Albert King and Shania Twain. The new release is highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.  “Who Knows What the Future Holds” is set for release on June 19th.

Greg’s contributions to music have been widely recognized. He has been nominated multiple times for Blues Music Awards by the Memphis based Blues Foundation and has been inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame. Over the years, Greg has had the privilege of sharing the stage and the recording studio with a diverse array of musical legends, including Pat Benatar, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan including a multi-year stint with the “Tilt-A-Whirl” Band,  Eric Clapton, Big Joe Turner, and Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, among many others. These collaborations have further cemented Greg’s reputation as a world-class musician.

Now celebrating his 75th year and 62 years of non-stop performing, Greg Piccolo’s career reflects not only his deep love for the music but also his ability to stay relevant across decades. His commitment to exploring new sounds while honoring the past is his signature.
