First-Ever Apple Fest at Olde Mistick Village Oct. 22nd & 23

Saturday, October 22, 2022

Description

Come with an appetite for apples, apple pie, apple kombucha, candy apples, apple cider, donuts, and more! The first Annual Apple Fest will be held this weekend at Olde Mistick Village, featuring apples in all their glory, as the region ushers in fall. “Fall is a magical time, it's the evening out of our warm summer days into the frosty grip of winter. That transition has a feel to it that reminds us of the ever-present change of life and slows us down as we slip into winter,” said Eric Meyer, the organizer of the Apple Fest. Some of the foods that will be on hand include caramel apples, apple crisp, apple pie, apple kombucha, apple cider, apple fritters, cider donuts, Kettle corn, personal-sized cheesecakes, maple cotton candy, pumpkin gingersnap ice cream, and candied bacon. For children, there will be a Jack-O-Lantern Contest, face painting, a balloon artist, and pumpkin painting. The vendors include Never Enough Bake Shop; Holmberg Orchards; Dudes Donuts; Tony D's; April Kneads Dough; Oronoque Farms; and Stonewall Apiary. The event is dog friendly with K9 Cookie Confectionary providing treats. Many artists and craftsmen with fall-themed products will show off their wares. There will be wooden flower arrangements, handmade journals, wreaths, cutting boards, soaps, plants, and more. Meyer, the organizer of the Apple Fest and the owner of the village’s Ice Imports store, said organizing the festival has consumed far more time than he ever expected, but it will be worth it. “I'm certain that the tradition we are beginning will far outlive my presence on this planet, it's sort of thrilling to build something that will outlive me. The Mystic Village Apple Festival will provide enjoyment and memories for families for many years into the future,” Meyer said. The idea came about due to the ongoing success of the Garlic Festival, organized by Jim Holley, the owner of Franklin's General Store, Meyer said. “I felt we should do another food-themed festival and the other merchants of the village agreed.” The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
