The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce recognizes James O’Grady in our Community Proud series sponsored by Charter Oak Credit Union.

James is a self-described serial entrepreneur whose career reflects adaptability, grit, and follow-through. His passion for DJing and live events led him to launch JPO Productions, where he brings energy and connection to every event he’s part of. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought the events industry to a sudden halt, James pivoted. Using his reputation and relationships in the business community, he began taking on junk removal jobs through word-of-mouth referrals. What started as a way to keep moving forward quickly grew into O’Grady’s Junk Removal LLC, now a thriving business built on reliability and trust. With both O’Grady’s Junk Removal and JPO Productions, James prides himself on thinking outside the box and turning ideas into action.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, James moved to the Mystic area when his father, who served in the Navy, relocated the family to Groton. Mystic has remained home ever since.

At the core of James’ work is authenticity. He describes himself as a straight shooter who believes trust is built by being genuine, keeping promises, and showing up consistently. That approach has earned him lasting relationships with both clients and peers.

James is deeply involved in the community and currently serves as a Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce AmbassadorHe has participated in many Chamber events and is known for his generosity and enthusiasm. At the Chamber’s Easter Trunk Hop, James filled the trunk of his convertible with Easter eggs and donated a $100 grand prize, creating a memorable moment for families and kids. He also served as a board member of the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation, calling it one of his most meaningful community experiences.

What keeps James rooted here is family and people. With his immediate family close by and a strong network of connections built over time, this area continues to feel like home.

Outside of work, James enjoys listening to podcasts while on the job, playing paintball with friends, and spending quality time with his nieces and nephews. James credits his father as his greatest inspiration. That’s where he gets his perseverance and entrepreneurship form. One piece of advice from his father continues to guide him: “Competition isn’t a bad thing. It gives you the opportunity to do it better.”

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize James O’Grady for his generosity and commitment to the community.
