GMCC Announces Matthew Haut as the Latest Honoree in the ‘Community Proud’ Series Sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Matthew Haut in the ‘Community Proud’ Series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. Matthew’s journey with StoneRidge began in 2003, since then, he has played an integral role in delivering exceptional service and creating memorable culinary experiences for residents and is now the Culinary Director.
For over two decades, Matthew has dedicated himself to exceeding the expectations of StoneRidge’s community, managing multiple dining venues and events, and building lasting relationships along the way.
A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Matthew’s roots run deep. He has lived in only four houses, all within two streets, showing how much he values community. When asked what makes this area feel like home, Matthew shares, “I love the community and how small it is. It’s a place where everyone knows each other, and that’s special to me.”
In July, Matthew will celebrate 21 years at StoneRidge, a milestone that reflects his commitment to the organization and the people he serves. For him, StoneRidge is more than just a job; it’s a family. He values the unique sense of community that StoneRidge fosters, where residents and staff alike work together to create a warm, welcoming environment.
StoneRidge is only the third job Matthew has ever held, and he has formed special bonds with the residents throughout the years. His role as the Dining Services Manager involves overseeing a team that manages the day-to-day operations of multiple dining venues, events, catering, and private functions. The menus change weekly, offering fresh, local ingredients, including produce from local farms, seafood from nearby docks, and artisanal cheeses from local dairies. Matthew is particularly proud of supporting local businesses, and he sees his work as an opportunity to showcase the best of the area’s offerings. “We work with local farms that provide us with 90% of our produce, and we use quality seafood and cheese’s bought locally,” says Matthew.
A key part of the experience at StoneRidge is the unique culinary events that Matthew and his team organize. From lobster bakes to pig roasts and wine tasting dinners, these events have become resident favorites. The sense of community involvement is strong, with residents and staff collaborating on event ideas. For example, the annual pig roast began with a chef’s idea and quickly grew into a much-anticipated tradition, complete with a 400-pound pig cooked in a specially built pit. Special events like Mardi Gras parties, and 4th of July picnics, are just a few of the ways Matthew and his team bring people together. “It’s amazing to see how much the residents enjoy these events, and when they have an idea, we love bringing it to life,” Matthew shares.
Matthew values the relationships he’s built with the residents and prides himself on knowing each resident’s name. He also has a culinary committee composed of 12 residents who meet monthly to share suggestions and ideas.
Matthew’s leadership style is deeply rooted in respect and collaboration. He credits his team for the success of StoneRidge’s dining services, and the nearly zero turnover rate is a testament to the positive work environment he fosters. With employees who have worked with him for decades, Matthew believes that the energy at StoneRidge is what keeps everything running smoothly. The satisfaction scores from residents reflect the quality of his work, but it’s the relationships he builds that truly define his success.
StoneRidge is also an active participant in the community, taking part in events like the Chowder Competition at Olde Mistick Village and the Mushroom Festival. Matthew is proud of how StoneRidge engages with the community, and he continues to work with local organizations to bring people together and support the area.
Matthew’s dedication to StoneRidge and the community is unmatched. As he reflects on his nearly 21 years with the company, he is grateful for the incredible team he works with and the opportunity to serve the residents of StoneRidge. He wants to extend his thanks to his staff, both front and back of house, who he believes are the backbone of everything they accomplish together. “I couldn’t do what I do without my incredible team. They’re amazing, and very supportive.”
Through his work, relationships, and commitment to excellence, Matthew Haut has truly become a cornerstone of the StoneRidge community.
