Relief Printing on Fabric: Tea Towels

Sunday, February 8, 2026 (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Create a single-color linocut and print it on flour-sack tea towels. Perfect to use at home or to gift to others!

This beginner-friendly class is an introduction to the relief process, the technique used in the oldest forms of printmaking. We will explore types of carving blocks, inks, and papers, and you will learn how to transfer your design and carve and ink the block. You will then handprint several tea towels.

Please read through the relief printing handout (found here) before class. Several designs will be available for you to choose from, but you are welcome to bring your own. Because we will be printing on fabric, a simple design featuring a bold image and thick lines works best. You can find some great ideas by searching for free black-and-white vector art. Keeping the design simple will help you avoid frustration so you can focus on the fundamentals of printing on fabric. It will also ensure you have plenty of time to print your tea towels.

Ages: 15+

All materials included.

This class is made possible by the support of The Dime Bank Foundation.

Get tickets here, sales end 5 days prior to class! Class Fee is non-refundable. Please plan accordingly. Please note: class may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met.
