Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) has served as a focal point for the arts in southeastern Connecticut for more than 100 years. This organization was founded in 1913 by Charles Harold Davis, Frances Darby Davis, George Albert Thompson, Lorinda Dudley, Dr. G.S.B. Leonard, Mary Williams Reed Leonard, Elizabeth Tift Mallory, and Reverend Albert Earnshaw. These artists shared the express goal to “erect and maintain an art museum…for the exhibition of works of art of all kinds…to promote cultural education, historical interest, local philanthropic and charitable activities, and to develop the property surrounding said museum for the beautification of the Village of Mystic, Connecticut.” (Mystic Art Association meeting on September 19, 1930)
