Gardening at the End the of Growing Season
Fall in New England is a glorious season of colorful splendor. It is also an important time for
your garden, as you make decisions that will impact both the well-being of wildlife during the
winter months and the health and beauty of your plants next year. Join Mystic-based Master
Gardeners Abby Van Slyck and Mitch Favreau for a discussion of gardening tasks you can tackle
in the fall—and beyond—to support the environment and to set your garden up for success next
year.
Abby Van Slyck and Mitch Favreau are Mystic residents who have enjoyed long careers at
Connecticut College and Electric Boat, respectively. For Mitch, the focus was IT support, while
for Abby, it was primarily teaching architectural history. In retirement, they have become avid
gardeners and completed the UConn Master Gardener certification course in 2025. They love
talking to other gardeners and thinking with them about how we can sustain the gardens that do
so much to nourish us.
