The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce proudly honors Sonya Swinamer, DVM, CVA, of Stonington Veterinary Hospital, in the latest installment of the ‘Community Proud’ series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. With 20 years of veterinary experience and a dedication to both animals and the community, Dr. Swinamer embodies the spirit of compassion and service. 

As the owner of Stonington Veterinary Hospital, she has created an environment of loyalty and collaboration among her staff, ensuring the highest standard of care for every four paw patient. Recognized for her unwavering commitment to both people and animals, Dr. Swinamer’s personality shines through in her work ethic and dedication to her community. She strives to provide the best possible care for companion animals, ensuring their health and well-being. 

A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, Dr. Swinamer graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2004 and moved to Stonington 18 years ago. She is a certified acupuncturist and a proud member of the American Veterinary Acupuncture Society. In 2020, she acquired Stonington Veterinary Hospital, furthering her commitment to serving the local community. 

Beyond her veterinary practice, Dr. Swinamer extends her passion for service to the Heart Warrior Achievement Scholarship, where she serves as Director. This initiative provides vital support for individuals with congenital heart disease, empowering them to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams. 

When not caring for her patients or directing charitable endeavors, Dr. Swinamer enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, boating, fishing, and skiing.
