The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to introduce Sara Buscetto as the latest honoree in our ‘Community Proud’ series, recognizing individuals who positively impact Southeastern Connecticut.

Born and raised in New London, Sara moved to Waterford just before starting high school, where she played softball and later earned a scholarship to Southern Connecticut State University. She pursued a business degree while working at her family’s renowned restaurant, Filomena’s, located on Boston Post Road. Having worked every position at the restaurant from a young age, Sara has transitioned into a co-ownership role alongside her parents, Mike and Heather Buscetto.

The Buscetto family has long been associated with the Connecticut community and philanthropy. Through Filomena’s, Sara and her family actively support various nonprofits, including Safe Futures, which helps victims of domestic violence, and the Cactus Jack Foundation which provides financial support for those in need. Filomena’s also hosts the largest veterans’ coffeehouse in Eastern Connecticut, offering a free breakfast for veterans every second Tuesday of the month—a tradition that draws a full house.

Sara credits her father, Mike, as her greatest inspiration, sharing, "He’s always been my hero, leading by example and showing me the importance of hard work and giving back to the community." 

In addition to her professional achievements, Sara is an assistant coach for Waterford High School’s softball team. She said, "I think it’s so important to give back to the community that raised me." Filomena’s also supports local sports teams, hosting numerous banquets and welcoming visiting colleges with open arms.

When asked what makes Waterford home, Sara spoke of the small-town feel and the sense of community. "There’s nothing quite like it. When you leave and come back, you appreciate it even more," she said.
