GMCC Recognizes Command Sergeant Major William "Bill" Wright in the Community Proud Series Sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Command Sergeant Major William “Bill” Wright, a dedicated community member and distinguished veteran, in its “Community Proud” series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. With over 30 years of residence in the area and a career marked by service and commitment, Bill is an integral part of both Beer’d Brewing Co. and the broader Connecticut community.
Known for his remarkable work ethic, Bill is celebrated as one of the hardest workers at Beer’d Brewing Co. and an invaluable team member. Whether it’s assisting with deliveries, stepping behind the bar, or offering support across departments, Bill exemplifies dedication and teamwork. When asked about Bill’s work ethic, Beer’d Brewing Co. owner, Precious Putnam, said “I’m proud to know CSM Wright and want others to know just how much he has done to make our community better. While his humility may cause him to object, he deserves this accolade and many others for his unwavering service and sacrifice.”
His commitment to community goes far beyond his role at Beer’d, extending to volunteer work repairing local structures with the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) and as a steward for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT).
Bill’s lifetime of service began in the U.S. Army, where he served for over 30 years, rising to the esteemed rank of Command Sergeant Major. His military service included leadership roles with the Connecticut National Guard and the Joint Staff, where he led, mentored, and safeguarded soldiers during both natural disasters and overseas missions. After his military career, Bill continued to serve by supporting veterans and their families at the Stonington Institute. In recognition of Bill’s unparalleled service, Chief Fusaro, who served alongside him, shared: “When thinking about ‘Community Proud,’ it is hard not to consider the immense amount of pride that comes with selfless and honorable service. Command Sergeant Major (Ret) William ‘Bill’ Wright epitomizes this sentiment. His commitment extends far beyond the borders of this community – to every corner of Connecticut and to other continents during his service to our state and nation.”
Bill’s story embodies what it means to be “Community Proud,” serving as an inspiring example of commitment to community, service, and compassion. Home is where the heart is, and wherever Bill goes, his heart is dedicated to making a positive impact.
