The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Greg Drab, founder of Advantage Personal Training, in our Community Proud series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. Greg has dedicated more than 25 years to helping people in Mystic, Groton, and beyond reach their fitness goals while building a community rooted in accountability, support, and care.
Greg, a Groton native and Fitch High School graduate, first discovered his passion for fitness while pursuing his Master’s in Exercise Science at UConn. In 1999, he opened Advantage Personal Training at the Olde Mistick Mill, starting small with just 800 square feet of space and one-on-one training sessions. From the beginning, Greg was intentional, asking himself: “Who are your customers, and what do you want to accomplish?” His vision was clear—to create a place where fitness was accessible, enjoyable, and life-changing for everyday people, not just athletes or celebrities.
Today, Advantage Personal Training has grown into a thriving fitness center with two locations, a team of dedicated staff, and the capacity to serve up to 60 clients per hour through a variety of programs. Greg’s approach is personal, every client receives a customized plan when they join the gym. Our mission is to be the best part of our clients’ day,” Greg shares, “and that starts with building relationships, caring about people inside and outside of the gym, and showing up for them consistently.”
Greg’s commitment to community runs deep. Advantage Personal Training regularly hosts events and fundraisers to support local causes, from the Brian Dagle Foundation Golf Tournament to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation and their annual Charity Soup Night. Greg emphasizes giving back to the place that raised him, and he takes pride in choosing local charities with his team each year.
Reflecting on his journey, Greg is humbled by the loyalty of clients who have been with him for more than 30 years and proud that Advantage Personal Training ranks among the top 3% of personal training gyms nationwide. But above all, he credits his team for the gym’s success: “We don’t become great without a great staff.”
Outside the gym, Greg is passionate about teaching younger employees financial independence, inspired by mentors who once guided him. He also enjoys skiing, golfing, and most importantly, spending time with his family here in the community where he grew up and raised his children.
When asked what inspires him each morning, Greg’s answer is simple: a love for fitness and a passion for helping people live better lives. His story is one of dedication, resilience, and community pride.
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce congratulates Greg Drab on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his commitment to improving lives in our community.
