What began as a necessity became a dream fulfilled for Alisson Salazar, the heart behind Mamis Cleaning. A mother of three and a Ledyard resident, Alisson launched her business from a place of love, courage, and personal experience, determined to create a path that allowed her to both support her family and be present for them.

Alisson’s journey into entrepreneurship didn’t start with a business plan, but with a deep desire to find balance between working and parenting. After years of waking up before sunrise to clean retail stores, she found herself missing out on life with her children. It was her oldest son, Mateo, who first suggested that she give her work a name—something that belonged to her. That encouragement set off a transformation. With support from her family, Alisson dove headfirst into the world of professional cleaning with a vision to build something her children could be proud of.

The name “Mamis Cleaning” was created by Mateo, while her younger children added their own creative touches: Maximiliano’s favorite colors and a pink glove on the logo's left hand in honor of her daughter Martina, who is left-handed. From the very start, it’s been a family affair—down to the smallest detail.

Launching a business as a non-native English speaker presented plenty of obstacles. Alisson relied on her son’s help with translation and studied late into the night to overcome the language barrier. That perseverance has paid off. What started with a few residential clients in Mystic has grown into three active service routes spanning the state of Connecticut. “Every step is worth it because it means being with my family, doing what I love, and helping other families from the heart,” Alisson says.

Alisson’s success is built not just on hard work, but also on empathy. As a mom herself, she understands what it’s like to come home to a sink full of dishes and a house full of toys. That’s why she formed a team of women—most of them mothers—who know the emotional and physical labor that goes into keeping a home running. “We don’t come from a place of perfection,” she says. “We come from a place of understanding.”

Mamis Cleaning doesn’t treat a house like a job site—it treats it like a home. Clients are met with honesty, care, and a genuine desire to bring relief and calm into their lives. Alisson makes a point of building connections, sharing her story, and listening to what each household truly needs. That human approach has helped her build long-standing relationships, including with her very first Mystic client, who’s still with her three years later.

Beyond business, Alisson is committed to giving back. Whether it's offering discounted services to families in need or volunteering at her children’s school, she finds ways to support the community that supported her. “Cleaning isn’t just a service—it’s a form of help,” she explains. “It brings peace, reduces stress, and allows people to enjoy a healthier and more harmonious space.”

Despite the long hours and weekend shifts, Alisson’s children love to be involved. They proudly wear their Mamis Cleaning shirts, eager to help their mom check in on clients or assist with the team. Her husband plays a vital role behind the scenes, helping with operations and logistics. “Mamis Cleaning starts at home,” Alisson says. “It’s a reflection of our entire family.”

Alisson’s story is a testament to resilience, the power of family, and the importance of community. “Something very special I want to emphasize is that everything that Mamis Cleaning does truly begins at home—with my family. For me, Mamis Cleaning isn’t just a business; it’s a reflection of who we are as a family, the Jiménez Salazar family, who make everything possible” she says.

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is honored to recognize Alisson Salazar—a woman whose passion, perseverance, and heart have helped not only her own family but many others across our region. Thank you, Alisson, for showing us what it means to be truly Community Proud.
