GMCC Celebrates George Majewski and Timothy Koehler, owners of THE MISFIT CLUB, in Community Proud Series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud to feature George Majewski and Timothy Koehler, owners of THE MISFIT CLUB, in our Community Proud series, sponsored by CorePlus Credit Union. George and Timothy have created an inclusive and welcoming community space that challenges the status quo and celebrates freedom of self-expression, resonating with the existing diverse spirit of Mystic and the region.

A Journey to Mystic

George and Timothy's journey to Mystic began two years ago when they attended the Lighted Boat Parade put on by the Chamber. Captivated by the charm of the town, they decided to leave behind the bustling big cities where they previously lived (including London, England, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Los Angeles) to make Mystic their new home. George and Timothy were welcomed by a wonderful group of neighbors who greeted them with open arms as their moving trucks rolled in, capturing the open-mindedness and friendliness that makes Mystic so unique.

British-Inspired Community Hub

Inspired by their experience as American-British nationals, George and Timothy were drawn to the idea of creating a space reminiscent of a traditional community-driven British pub. THE MISFIT CLUB embodies this vision, offering a unique blend of British pub culture with a modern, inclusive twist. The club showcases an impressive selection of craft beers, small batch spirits, and artisan wines, reflecting the owners' passion for quality beverages.

Mission and Inclusivity

THE MISFIT CLUB's mission is to provide Southeastern Connecticut with an alternative experience, creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone who challenge the norm strengthening the community.  From locals to tourists, from artists to Ivy League graduates, from nonconformists to merrymakers, the club has become a new community for all.

Events and Activities

The club's calendar is packed with diverse events that cater to its eclectic clientele. Regular activities include open mic nights, movie nights, Eurovision, community engagement gatherings, live broadcasts of English rugby and European football (soccer) matches, and local team after-game parties. These events reflect the club's commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance while celebrating individuality.

Community Engagement

Even before THE MISFIT CLUB opened its doors, George and Timothy sponsored both New London and Mystic Pride events, exemplifying their deep commitment to the local community. This year, they eagerly anticipate sponsoring Mystic Pride again, along with other events such as local sporting matches and art shows. They are committed to making every effort to select beer, spirits, and wine that have ties to the community and represent under-represented groups such as women-owned breweries, indigenous spirits, and LGBTQ wineries.

The Owners' Background

George and Timothy bring impressive backgrounds to their endeavors. George is a practicing lawyer for a technology and renewable energy company, while Timothy is a marketing and advertising expert who has worked on a host of projects including many Academy Award-winning films. Extensive community involvement has always been central to their experience. They're passionate about preserving local history and have renovated seven historic homes, including their current residence in Mystic.

A Warm Welcome

Within minutes of walking through the doors of THE MISFIT CLUB, visitors can sense the warm, welcoming atmosphere that George and Timothy have cultivated. Timothy shared, "I want to thank the community for opening their minds and welcoming us. I can't tell you how many hugs I get on a daily basis."
