The Shipwright’s Daughter and Whaler’s Inn proudly unveil She Discovers the Sea, a new gallery exhibition showcasing the compelling works of New England artist Elizabeth Ellenwood. Running from March 27th to May 31st, the exhibition, on display in the restaurant, serves as a powerful testament to the intersection of art and environmental consciousness.

Ellenwood, a Pawcatuck, CT native, dons multiple hats - photographer, educator, Fulbright Scholar, and ocean farmhand. Through her lens, she brings attention to pressing issues such as marine debris, plastic pollution, and climate change, utilizing her profound connection to the ocean and her photographic prowess to amplify these urgent messages.

Ellenwood's captivating imagery is crafted from objects discovered along local shores and transcends traditional boundaries to become a potent tool for environmental advocacy and change.

At the heart of the exhibition is a curated collection of Ellenwood's photographs and cyanotypes. Cyanotypes, a photographic printing process dating back to the 19th century, involve creating prints using sunlight, resulting in striking blue-toned images. These pieces are not merely artworks, but also serve as poignant reminders of our responsibility to protect our oceans and planet.

The Shipwright’s Daughter will host a special Happy Hour on Wednesday, March 27th, at 5:00 PM, to celebrate the launch of She Discovers The Sea, bringing the community together to raise awareness, ignite conversations, and inspire action. All gallery items will be available for purchase, and the hotel lobby will also have greeting cards and digital prints for sale.
