Mystic Outdoor Art Festival Returns for 68th Year
The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce presents the return of the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival August 8th-9th in Mystic, CT. The two-day art festival is the oldest, juried art show in the Northeast region. The festival serves an audience of art enthusiasts, as well as weekend visitors from the local surrounding communities, New England, the Tri-State area and beyond. The two-day art festival is the oldest, juried art show in the Northeast region. The festival serves an audience of art enthusiasts, as well as weekend visitors from the local surrounding communities, New England, the Tri-State area and beyond. The trail of artists begins in downtown Mystic on Washington Street, to Cottrell Street and follows the Mystic River down Holmes Street. In addition, there will be artist booths behind Schooner Wharf (on Holmes Street) with the Mystic River as a backdrop.
The festival showcases close to 230 artists from around the country with over a mile of fine arts and crafts including oils, watercolors, photography, textiles, sculpture, woodwork, acrylics and more. Food and beverages will be available from vendors throughout. The Mystic Outdoor Art Festival is free to the public and features activities and artwork for all ages to enjoy, including a Children’s Art Park outside The Engine Room and Performing Arts Stage in Mystic River Park.
This year, we are proud to present the sixth Annual Performing Arts Stage on Saturday, August 8th and 9th presented by The Garde Arts Center of New London and the Mystic Rotary. The performances feature a variety of local and regional performers including music and theater. The Garde Arts Center Performing Arts Stage will be located in Mystic River Park on Cottrell Street, Mystic. Performances will run from 11:00AM to 3:00 PM and 5:30PM-9:00PM so feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.
The Children’s Art Park will be located in front of the Engine Room in their parking lot at 14 Holmes Street. Families and children are welcome to visit the art park and participate in hands-on art making activities. This is an opportunity to explore art through fun projects in various mediums, crafts, and collaborative projects. These are free activities for all children.
Lyman Allyn Art Museum has planned a fun project for all ages inspired by their A Tin Can on a String: Conversations from the Collection exhibition. Participants can make a whimsical bird using collage materials inspired by the artwork created by the show's talented artists and lifelong friends Kat Murphy and Heidi Johnson.
Mystic Museum of Art will have supplies for kids to transform an ordinary seashell into an adorable sea creature! Using acrylic paint or paint markers, kids will design and decorate your shell before bringing it to life with fun embellishments like googly eyes, tails, legs, fins, and more.
Mystic Outdoor Art Festival will be celebrating its 68th year on Saturday, August 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We look forward to celebrating the arts and our community with this event.
