Expressive Skies in Oil and Watercolor
Tuesday, February 3, 2026 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EST)
Description
Taught by Howard Park and Lisa Miceli. Skies are one of the most beautiful and inspiring parts of nature. Because they are often the most abstract part of a landscape, this class focuses on painting skies with energy and drama using big, free brushstrokes. You’ll learn how to create mood and atmosphere in a convincing way. Many artists treat the sky as an afterthought, but it is an important part of the whole composition. You’ll learn to think about the sky from the very beginning of your painting, so your color, tone, and brushwork feel connected. Instruction includes how to observe the many colors in the sky, how to mix believable sky colors, and why skies are rarely pure blue and clouds are rarely pure white. The class includes demos in both oil and watercolor, showing how to create light and atmosphere, depict the dome of the sky, and paint with simple, effective brushwork. Five-week series Tuesdays, 9am – 12pm February 3 – March 3 Members $240 / Nonmembers $280
